SWIMWEAR ENEMIQ: THE SCANDALOUS HISTORY OF THE BIKINI

"The bikini is the most important thing since the atomic bomb."

(Diana Vreeland)

Did you know that there is a really scandalous story behind the history of the bikini? However, their origins date back to ancient Rome. Come with us to look
at the past of this fashion piece, without which we can't even imagine the summer of the 21st century. Don't forget that Enemiq has prepared really extravagant
and sexy bikini for you this summer, which will only confirm that you really can't do without them in the summer.

ANCIENT ROME: ROMAN "BIKINI GIRLS"

If we wanted to search for the first preserved representation of a bikini, we would find it in the first, large-scale paintings in an ancient Sicilian villa. Dating back
to the fourth century, Villa Romana del Casale
contains the richest complex of mosaics in the world. The mosaic, on which you can see the first ever bikinis,
was nicknamed "Bikini Girls" and depicts women exercising in a two-piece, now legendary piece of summer clothing.

PREMIERE IN HOLLYWOOD

In the still somewhat "censored" and newly born Hollywood, the first half-waist swimsuits appeared in musical films such as "Footlight Parade" (1933),
"Flying Down to Rio" (1933), "Gold Diggers of 1933" or "Fashions of 1934".

World War II led to the rationing of many common goods, including fabrics. In 1942, the Office of War Production in the USA ordered to reduce the amount of fabric
used for women's swimwear by up to 10%. And that was precisely the reason why this piece of clothing had to become more economical and therefore automatically
revealed larger part for the female body. By 1945, the two-piece swimsuit had become a more visible hit, and big Hollywood stars like Rita Hayworth and
Esther Williams were wearing it in pin-up magazines, guaranteeing unprecedented success and popularity.

FASHION BOMB: SCANDALOUS LAUNCH OF MODERN BIKINI

However, the bikini was not technically invented until 1946. French fashion designers Jacques Heim and Louis Réard independently released their own versions
of what we know today as the bikini. Heim named his proposal "atom" as the smallest particle of matter.

On the other hand, Réard's "bikini" got its name more romantic, but still extreme - after Bikini Atoll, a nuclear test site near Guam. Réard debuted this
bikini at a poolside fashion show in Paris. Many models refused this offer, but model Micheline Bernardini was not afraid of it and proudly showed off a design
that has been forever written in the history of global fashion. The revealing cut of the bikini was considered liberating and scandalous at the same time,
as it defiantly exposed the navel of the wearer.

The future editor-in-chief of Vogue, Diana Vreeland, called the bikini "the most important thing since the atomic bomb". And we can't help but agree with that 😊
